Abstract

The Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) allows that new applications be created through combination of services, which integrates applications faster than usual and also reduces its development costs and time. It also provides more flexibility to the Information Technology (IT) area enabling it to comply with the enterprise business divisions more quickly. This research project about SOA has been applied to an academic management environment of an educational fundamental school. The validation of the research project will be done by the development of a computer prototype that treats the management of the basic processes in an educational environment, which main objective is to authomatize all processes needed in order to carry out the school and financial management of the educational institution involved in the project. The utilization of SOA aims at guaranteeing reusability and flexibility, which will allow the accompaniment and support to the organizational environment. This solution is based on an environment built under the SOA architecture – it will offer the institution the possibility to construct and integrate systems. The solution presented here will be part of a complete authomatization of the school, which is the focus of this research work, and it is composed by two other projects: Educational Management System – Educational Management System Network – Data Warehouse. This study aims at analyzing this new Software Engineering trend and the impact that the development and popularization of this paradigm will have on the software development. It is expected that, after reading the text, the reader is able to understand exactly what the architecture is and what it proposes, as well as its advantages and possible disadvantages.
