O papel decisivo do legado político europeu no fracasso da extrema-direita nas eleições da França e Alemanha em 2017

Abstract

The present study focuses on the role of the European political legacy in the failure of the far-right in the French presidential election and German federal legislative elections, both in 2017. To do this, the following hypotheses were formed: "the legacy and its ideals of peace, solidarity and the strength of supranational institutions led to the failure of the far-right in France and Germany. To confirm this hypothesis, a second perspective was also formulated: "economic crises influenced the growth of nationalist and populism movements". To verify the feasibility of these hypotheses, this study analyzed the modern financial crises and their influence in nationalist and populist movements in the ensuing period. From this approach, the present study confirmed the emerging of a new cleavage in the European society: firstly, the society politically refocused to the far-right and, secondly, the society complying with the European ideal. Finally, it was also confirmed the importance of the French-Germany bilateral relation to the European integration process, since the European Communities until the actual European Union. This analysis drew on the Federalism, integrationist theory that is the cornerstone of the European principles and ideals.
