A interleucina-6 na predição do ângulo de cifose toracica em idosas

Abstract

Introduction: Among the main morphofunctional changes of the elderly is the increase in thoracic kyphosis. The increase in plasma interleukin-6 (IL-6) concentration is associated with mortality, comorbidity and disability in elderly people as well as the genotypes of this cytokine are associated with clinical changes in aging. The aim of this research was to analyze the influence of genotypes obtained from the IL-6for determining the angle of thoracic kyphosis and the correlation between the levels of plasma IL-6 and that angle in older women. Method: Comparative and cross-section study with 67 women, aged over 60 years, from the Project for the Promotion of Health of the Elderly of the Universidade Católica of Brasília. To measure the angle of thoracic kyphosis it was used the Flexicurve method. For the estimation and identification of genotypes of IL-6 was collected blood, DNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction. Results: Separated according to the genotype of the gene IL-6 that contained GG or GC, the data showed no influence of genotypes and the angle of thoracic kyphosis (p<0,05). Also, the correlation of plasma level and the angle was low and not statistically significant (r = -0,001; p = 0,159). Conclusion: The results suggest that the value of the angle of thoracic kyphosis in elderly women was not influenced by GC and GG genotypes of IL-6. It was also observed that there was no correlation of the angle of thoracic kyphosis with the plasma level of IL6.
