A eficácia do ultra-som terapêutico no tratamento da Síndrome do Túnel do Carpo

Abstract

Introduction: CTS is the most common compressive neuropathy, with an incidence of 0.1 to 1.5% in the general population. The signs and symptoms are pain, weakness and muscle atrophy, sensory loss in the median nerve distribution and possible decreased mobility of the wrist and metacarpal-phalangeal joints. Objective: To demonstrate the effectiveness of ultrasound therapy in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome, as a single treatment, without the aid of other therapeutic modalities. Methodology: Controlled clinical trial, not randomized, with 12 adult volunteers of both sexes aged 40-85 years with clinical diagnosis of CTS were divided into a group treated only with U.S. and one treated with kinesiotherapy associated with the placebo U.S. Results: Group of the U.S., the results were significant for pain reduction, improvement in hand grip strength and sensibility, while the placebo group showed no statistically significant results in relation to handgrip strength, but resulted in improved sensibility and pain. Conclusion: The U.S. treatment achieved significant results for pain reduction, improved strength and sensibilility.
