Conflitos étnicos e os interesses das grandes potências: uma análise através da Teoria Construtivista

Abstract

Ethnic conflicts, despite their unfortunate outcome over the centuries, is still a complex topic. First, because it deals with several aspects – such as race, nations, culture and religion, for example –, but also because of the way they emerged and are still present. Therefore, by understanding the formation of ethnic clashes, it is possible to contemplate the existence of interventions – direct and/or indirect – by international powers. The objective of this monograph is not only to understand the conflicts and ethnicity factors involved, but also to use the constructivist theory of International Relations to go deeper into the concepts of social and identity construction by some of the powers involved. Thus, it is noted that despite the interventions of these countries apparently carrying a humanitarian value or even based on common cooperative terms, they are still responsible for performing a destructive and worrying action in ethnic wars.
