Discurso religioso na política externa norte-americana: o caso de George W. Bush (2001-2009)

Abstract

The 9/11 terrorist attacks exposed, once again, the links between religion and American foreign policy. The reaction of the United States after the attacks draws international attention to the important role of religion. Think about personal faith would be a way of to understand the behavior of George W. Bush. This research , however , try to look beyond the religious speeches of the 43° president, makes an effort to get back in the past and rescue all the speeches already pronounced in religious form by the U.S. presidents in situations of international intervention. In order to address the problematic proposal, the work identifies the trajectory of religion in U.S. foreign policy. Therefore, the study is structured in three chapters: the first identify the historical elements that compose the American nation since its founding, and highlight the use of religious arguments in the history of American Foreign policy. The second chapter covers the course of the neoconservative movement, a group which strongly influenced the Republican Party and the moral values of American society. And finally, the third chapter identifies the use of faith by Bush, and the peculiarities that differ from the rest.
