Um estudo sobre o uso do sujeito existencial “there” na produção escrita de alunos brasileiros de inglês como língua estrangeira

Abstract

Brazilian students of English as a Foreign Language can show some difficulties to internalize certain structures of the target language. For this reason this paper has the objective of analysing how the existential “there” constructions are being used in written productions of young adult students of a private English course. In order to achieve the goals proposed, essays and sentences written by these students were analysed. The sentences were collected via an exercise developed specially to test their knowlodge on how to use the existential “there” construction. Through the analysis of this material, we reached the conclusion that 49% of the students showed difficulties when using this construction, a high percentange considering that they are advanced level students.
